International Mother Language Day Celebrated

The International Mother Language Day (as declared by UNESCO) organised by Research Forum Manipur (REFORM), has been observed on Sunday, the 21st Feb., 2010 at the Conference Hall of Manipur Press Club, Imphal, India with Hon'ble MLA and Chairman PDA Dr. Kh. Loken and Dr. N. Birchandra as Chief Guest and President respectively. Prof. Ch. Yashawanta, Deptt. Of Linguistics, Manipur University delivered a talk on "Imalon Choukhatnanabagi Thoudang".

Dr. Loken in his speech of the Chief Guest has expressed that there is urgent need to operationalise the Directorate of Manipuri Language under the Government of Manipur for development of Manipuri language. Further, Prof. Yashawanta opined the view that there should be standardisation of Manipuri language spelling and also systematic and in dept research work to make the language compatible with the computer machine and encourage multi language translation facilities etc.
Further, Research Forum in its pursuit towards the development of arts, culture, sports and language of Manipur has set to organise an International Seminar on the "The Status and Developmental Issues and Challenges of Manipuri Language" tentatively during September 2010 including resource persons from USA, UK, China, Mayanmar, Thailand and Bangladesh etc. For details of the Seminar please contact : [email protected] or [email protected]
