An organization for the people of Manipuri origin living in Canada named, “Manipuri Association of Canada” has been formed in a convention in Montreal, Canada during September 4-5, 2010 in presence of Ms Marie Derose, Councillor and Cultural Secretary, City of Montreal as Chief Guest, a crowd of invitees from other communities and Manipuris from various provinces of Canada.
A number of resolutions pertinent to constitution of the new organization, its objectives and proposed activities were taken during the convention. The association will be registered soon as a non-profit organization to look after the social, cultural and academic interests of the Manipuris in Canada. The organization will be launching its official website soon.
Some of the priority activities identified for the organization include, academic achievement awards for Manipuri Children in Canada, similar awards for Manipuri students in Manipur and Bangladesh and establishment of the Manipuri Hall of Fame in Imphal.

The Convention elected seven members of the Board of Directors and seven members of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee members are:

The convention featured a colourful cultural program with stunning performances of Thang-Ta Manipuri martial arts by Jiteshor and Kiran, Pung Cholom by Mrs. Shanti Pebam, popular Manipuri songs, western instrumentals, piano and Thabal Dance. The Convention declared Toronto, Canada to be the venue of the next convention.
