BJP submitted memorandum on Imphal Municipal Council to Prime Minister

A team of BJP led by Smt. Bijaya Chakravorty, MP(LS) along with L. Bashanta Sharma, secy, Media Affairs, BJP, Manipur and Yanglet Haokip, Secy, BJP, Manipur submitted a memorandum on suspension of Imphal Municipal Council on 9-8-2010 on the basis of an old show cause notice dated 14-10-2009 to Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Shri Jaipal Reddy at New Delhi around 3 PM today.

In this regard, earlier top brass Party leader Sushma Swaraj, Bijoya Chakravorty, Arun Jaitly, SS Ahluwalia, Prakash Javedkar, Ravisankar Prasad and Chandrasekhar Raoji discussed the matter and authorised Bijoya chakravorty to meet the concerned Minister and PM. On behalf of the BJP, Smt Bijoya Chakravorty submitted the memorandum.

In her memorandum, Bijoya stated that an act of suspension by the Manipur Government is undemocratic and try to misuse the fund provided under JNNURM. Imphal is a JNNURM city and regarding this a city plan for a total amount of Rs. 1872 crores has been approved by the GOI.

All the works are to be completed within 2012. In this crucial juncture ,suspension of IMC is very bad in all respect.

On the other hand, guideline of the JNNURM "State may allocates funds to towns/cities basing on similar formula. However, funds would be provided to only those towns and cities where elections to local bodies have been held and elected bodies are in position".

As such the implementation of JNNURM in Imphal has to be stopped till the IMC is revived or constituted. The suspension is an extra-constitutional term not existed anywhere in any Municipality and as such BJP condemn the very act of suspension and challange the enactment of Manipur Municipality 3rd Amendment Act 2005 under which the new controversial Provision of suspension and there is very likelihood of the revival of this council.
