Imphal, April 18: Tightening the noose around former MP and NCP's candidate for the Outer Parliamentary seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election Holkhomang Haokip, against whom the UKLF and KNF have issued boycott calls, Kuki Inpi, Manipur (KIM) today said that it is in favour of taking strong action against the seasoned politician for allegedly ignoring the aspirations of the Kuki community.

As an apex organisation of the Kuki community, KIM has no close or side connection with any particular candidate, but at the same time is in favour of taking strong action against the former MP for having ignored issues close to the heart of the Kuki people, vice-president Kamsei Kipgen and general secretary Jangmang Haokip said in a joint statement.

Detailing the five points that are too big an issue to be ignored by Holkhomang, KIM maintained that Holkhomang has utterly failed in living up to his earlier official promises of relief, rehabilitation and resettlement of the displaced Kukis.

He was the one who tried to sow seeds of division in the Kuki society by calling Gangte community as not Kuki or Mizo besides being responsible for breaking up KIM into two groups for his personal interest, the statement accused.

He is also the one who made Kuki nomenclature as a sub-tribe thereby reducing the status of Kuki as small as possible so that only some clans of the Thadou tribe can be recognised as a separate tribe from the rest, the joint statement claimed and observed that this would be an endless controversial issue for all time to come for the Kukis.

On the promises allegedly made by Holkhomang for purchasing rice for Rs 1 crore from his MP fund, the statement said that he knew very well that he would never do so at any cost.

However, the statement made it clear that the stand of the KIM was not a call to a hate him personally, but to correct him for the mistakes he had committed and also to give warning to the upcoming leaders so that they could not fool the people in future.

KIM also appealed to the general public and the Kuki community in particular to take greatest precaution to ensure that no breach is committed in the election code of conduct.

Bitter experiences of the past like kidnaping, intimidation, threat, torture or even killing during and after the election have been all due to high degree of unfair practices we have committed in total violation of the general rule of lection of this great democratic country, KIM admitted.
