Imphal, December 29: Samata Party leader and former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam today ruled out any possibility of the party striking up an alliance with the BJP for the forthcoming Assembly election for which the State will go to polls on February 14 and 21 next year.

Reacting to the suggestion of BJP spokesman Sunil Shastri recently that the BJP may go along with the Samata Party in the hustings, Koijam said that the two parties may strike up alliances in other States which will go to polls simultaneously with Manipur.

However there is no question of the two parties arriving at a pre-poll pact here, he asserted.

Koijam further said that the high command of Samata have not intimated to the State unit to go along with the BJP in the election.

Moreover no discussion in this connection has been held at a high level of the State unit, he continued.

A prominent leader of the BJP also confirmed Koijam's statement and said that there has been no intimation from the BJP high command to go along with the Samata Party in the Assembly election.

He added that there is an earlier decision not to arrive at a pre-poll pact between the two political parties keeping in view the political reality in Manipur.

Mention may be made here that the BJP played the major role in unseating the People's Front Government led by the Samata Party under the Chief Ministership of Radhabinod Koijam.

The present President's Rule was imposed following the ouster of the Samata Party led Government and the bout of political instability that gripped the State.
