Dharnas decry ISKCON blast

Imphal, Aug 27: Attired in traditional mourning dresses, womenfolk continued to staged Wakat Meephams in protest against the August 16 bomb blast at the Mani Mandir of ISKCON which killed five persons and wounded several others.

Around 200 womenfolk belonging to various Meira Paibi bodies of Thangmeiband area congregated under the banner of Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Marup and staged a Wakat Meepham along the footpath of THAU ground to protest the incident.

The women protestors termed the ISKCON blast as a 'shame' and demanded to know the identity of the persons or groups responsible for killing the five innocent persons and causing injuries to over 40 devotees who have come workshop on the occasion of Krishna Janmasthami.

Similar protest demonstrations was also staged by the local womenfolks in front of the gate of the office of the Fisheries Department at Lamphelpat decrying targeting innocent people as soft targets for terrorist activities.

At Wangkhei Ayangpalli Leima Keithel, a large of women staged protest from early morning till late evening in condemnation of the bomb blast at ISKCON.

The protest demonstration was jointly organised by Wangkhei Yonglan Ayangpalli Leima Keithel Nupi Samaj, Wangkhei Ayangpalli Mamang Leikai Nupi Marup, Kongpal Mutum Leikai Nupi Marup and Diamond Club.

Women's Development Society, Pheijaleitong also organised similar Wakat Meepham at Thongju Pheijaleitong and Lainingthou Awangba Mamang leikai Women's Welfare Society at the temple premises of Lainingthou Awangba.

Meanwhile, besides condemning the bomb blast, Manipur Peace Centre and L Achouba Singh Memorial Trust have condoled the death of Dr Kangjam Binodkumar Singh in the bloody attack at ISKCON on August 16.Dr Binodkumar is said to a social activist who was closely associated with the two organisations during his lifetime.
