Security beefed up in hill dists

Imphal, July 16: In the backdrop of violent agitation in some hill districts to protest the injury caused to a civilian by IRB personnel and thrashing of another at Senapati district recently, elaborate security measures have been adopted to prevent further destruction of public properties.

With over 20 Government offices torched by agitators at the four hill districts of Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Tamenglong to protest the IRB men action, security measures have been beefed up at Senapati district, according to SP Kh Chandramani.

The police officer informed a 60 men strong Manipur Rifles personnel have been deployed in and around the district headquarters besides keeping strict vigil over Government establishments in the district.

Informing that a company of the CRPF has been stationed at Taphou area to prevent any untoward incident, the SP said that relative calm has returned to Senapati district inspite of concentration of blockade supporters at the district.

Police source also confided of similar security arrangements at Tamenglong dist which was also engulfed by violent protests.
