NCP, MPP workers clash at Oinam

Imphal, February 12: Serious altercations took place between NCP and MPP supporters of Oinam AC at Oinam Bazar last night.

The incident followed after the parties engaged in shouting against each other using mikes during publicity campaigns.

They also pelted stones against each other.

To control the situation, escort party of MPP candidate Dr I Ibohalbi fired some rounds in the air.

In connection with the incident, a case was also registered at Nambol police station.

In the aftermath of the stone pelting incident, an NCP worker, Yumnam Inao was held by MPP supporters and taken to the candidate's residence where he was assaulted by the candidate himself.

This was disclosed by Inao while speaking to reporters today.

Inao was handed over to police by Ibohalbi who later released him at around 11 pm yesterday, he conveyed.

On the other hand, an independent candidate in Nambol constituency coming together with his escort personnel was blockaded on the road by a group of Congress workers at Nambol Sabal Leikai at around 11:20 yesterday, prompting the security personnel to fire in the air.

A case has been registered on the incident at Nambol police station.
