Senapati, May 10 2010:
In pursuance to the decision adopted during the 'consultative meetings' conducted under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC) and Naga frontal organisations held at Ukhrul, Taphou, Tadubi, Kangshang, Chandel and Tamenglong to seek the opinion of the people on the impact of the "imposition" of The Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils (3rd Amendment) Act 2008 after a thorough deliberation the Consultative Meetings unanimously decided to reject the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act 1971 and the Amended Act 2008 be rejected in its present form and content, as the said Act does not protect and safeguard the rights of the people and decided to resist the enforcement of the Act.
"Hence, the same decision had been endorsed to all Tribe President, village Chiefs/Headmen/Chairman for strict enforcement of aforesaid decision.
That, the enforcement includes all activities related to the functioning and other processes related to the aforesaid rejected Act," the UNC said today.
The UNC further informs all concerned political parties and aspiring candidates to comply with the decision of the people and refrain from participating in the "imposed election process" to the scheduled ADC election 2010 .
Concerned Naga tribe organisations and village authority may take appropriate actions as per Naga customary tradition against any individual who violates the decision of the people and any untoward consequences shall be at their own risk, the UNC warns.
