Miscreants torch truck in Senapati district area

Imphal, August 28 2010: An empty truck has been set on fire at an isolated spot between Taphou Kuki village and Mount Everest College under Senapati district, on the Imphal-Dimapur section of National highway 39 .

According to a police source, the empty truck (NL01A/2241) without any security escort was heading alone for Dimapur when a group of people stopped and set it on fire at around 12.40 pm today causing damage to the front portion of the vehicle.

Information has been received that Senapati district police have registered a case on the matter and an investigation is already underway even as security measures have been taken up to prevent recurrence of such incident in the district.

Meanwhile, about 143 trucks along with two passenger buses have crossed Mao Gate under stringent security cover by CRPF personnel while another five oil tankers, 73 loaded trucks, two passenger carriers and five other light motor vehicles have reached Mao Gate from Nagaland, under similar security measures.

While passage of vehicles along the ImphalDimapur section of NH-39 had been continuing under security cover in view of the extended economic blockade on this route, vehicular movement along Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-53 remains static owing to landslide in between Nungba and Kambiron.

Several vehicles including loaded trucks are said to be stranded on either side of the landslide area.

A source in the Transporters and Drivers' Council said about 200 loaded trucks coming from Jiribam side have been awaiting clearance of the debris.

It is also informed that under the initiative of the Council about 55 trucks loaded with boulders and shingles have left today to provide material support in the repairing work of the sunk area.
