BJP worker stabbed to death, mob torches accused's home

Imphal, February 15: Unidentified assailants stabbed to death a worker of the BJP candidate in Yaiskul Assembly constituency RK Dorendra at Guru Aribam Leikai at around 10.10 pm yesterday.

An irate mob ransacked and torched the residence of one G Chaoba who is alleged to have carried out the crime at around 5.15 pm today.

The victim is identified as Gurumayum Gyaneshwor alias Nanao (32) of Thangapat Mapan Heirikhagok Makhong.

The victim was stabbed at his left chest and there were assault marks on his body.

Post mortem has been conducted at the RIMS morgue.

After the funeral of Gyaneshwor was completed, the irate mob went to the residence of Congress candidate in the constituency E Kunjeshwor where the assailant is alleged to be hiding.

However they returned at the intervention of security personnel.

Later, they went to the residence of the alleged killer G Chaoba Sharma (45) at Guru Aribam Leikai and ransacked it before torching the house.

The fire was put off at the request of meira paibis.

However, the angry protestors torched it again.

They also prevented Fire Brigade personnel-from entering the area.

However, a police team led by OC Porompat PS kept guard and let the fire personnel put out the fire.

One outhouse has been gutted in the fire.

Some furniture of Chaoba's home has also been destroyed.

Before burning the house, the mob brought out 7-8 daggers of different types.

Residents alleged that Chaoba murdered some four persons till date.

Police vigil has been intensified in the area following the incident.

The BJP Yaiskul Mandal has strongly flayed the killing of Gyaneshwor who is the party convenor of ward No 19.A condolence meeting held today described his demise as a great loss to the party.
