Imphal, June 24:
Bluntly stating that it cannot accept the decision of the Government to declare June 18 as a State holiday, the Churachandpur District Students' Union today said that the decision of the Government was nothing but a political gimmick to gain political mileage out of a violent uprising.
In a statement, the student body said that Nagas, Kukis, Zomis and Chin-Lushais have been living for ages as proud Manipuris but elevating the outbursts of a particular section of the population to acts of patriotism while neglecting the others like the Kuki Rebellion, the Zougal and Solo War of Yadonang against the British is not justified.
If such sacrifices are to be declared as State holidays then the calendar in Manipur will be full of State holidays, added CDSU.
The statement further said that if the Naga fraternity feels embittered by the declaration of the Government, then it should not be imposed on anyone, sad the student body.
Imposing the State holiday on anyone will aggravate the situation and not save the integrity of Manipur it observed.
