Imphal, March 19:
Even as shops owned by non-locals in Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar of Kwairamband market here remained shut down for the day today in protest against the spate of killing migrant workers in different parts of the State since March 17, their women counterparts staged a Wakat Meepham calling upon all concerned to stop further killings.
So far 15 migrant workers have been gunned down by unidentified persons at different parts of the State in the last 48 hours while causing injuries to some others.
Besides affecting normal business transactions, closure of the two main market places also caused inconveniences to the people coming to make their purchases as they were caught unaware.
On the other hand, around 100 non-Manipuri women staged a Wakat Meepham at Tellipati to condemn the killing and appealed to all concerned to stop such senseless killing at once.
