Imphal, February 19: A police team led by the Additional SP of Thoubal police rushed to Kangshang on receiving reports that some people who were planning to take out a peace rally in Pallel were detained by some armed groups at Kangshang today.

The people were coming on a canter when it was hijacked by the armed persons, said police sources and added that the vehicle along with the rallyists were detained at Kangshang.

When the police team reached the spot, they found that the canter was substantially damaged, said the source adding that it has been recovered by the police.

The police team also came across one Gypsy and one Yamaha motorcycle.

Both were extensively damaged, said the source but the police did not recover them.

Meanwhile The Maring Napuiya Yinglam and the Maring Students' Union have strongly condemned the action of NSCN (IM) cadres on the women of various Maring villages who were coming out to participate in a peace rally in connection with the Assembly election at Meipou public ground, near Pallel today.

In a statement, the MNY said that many women were beaten and detained by NSCN (IM) cadres.
