Tamenglong women rally for fair poll

Imphal, February 09: Responding to the call of Zeliangrong Women Union, around 500 women took out a rally at Tamenglong district headquarters for ensuring free and fair conduct of the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly election and allow the voters to vote for their representatives of their own choice without any fear and intimidation from any quarters.

The rally was taken out from Tamenglong ground and later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of the district.

A copy of the memorandum made available to press strongly opposed the diktat and interference of some NGOs, individuals, social/political groups with vested interests in the electoral process.

The Zeliangrong Women Union, Tamenglong also decried interference and intimidation by some elements in the electoral process with special reference to the 9th Assembly elections.

The memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong District T Pamei conveyed the desire of Tamenglong people to exercise their franchise without any form of coercion, threat or undue interference.

It further appealed to the DC to take up fool proof measures so that the citizens can exercise their franchise on their own free will.
