Digvijay to join poll campaign in State

Imphal, February 06: Joining the host of political personalities and central leaders in electioneering works in Manipur, Samata Party central leader and Union Minister of State for Railways Digvijay Singh will arrive at Jiribam tomorrow for party campaigning.

An official source said that another team of 20 SPG commandos has also arrived in the State today in connection with the visits of VIPs.

Another source said that the State has sought 2000 additional home guards from the Centre.

The source said that the matter of providing security in districts has not been finalized yet but adequate security personnel will be deployed in the valley districts for the first phase poll on February 14.A security meeting presided by Chief Secretary Rakesh was held to discuss security arrangements for the visits of central leaders for electioneering in the State at the office of the Chief Secretary today, said another source.

The meeting attended by top police, BSF, CRPF and army officials discussed the matter of allotting security cover to the political leaders as per their categories and also to alert the security network, official sources said.

The source said that the sixth general co-ordination meeting will be held at the Old Secretariat conference hall tomorrow.

The meeting will discuss the functioning of the election control rooms, internal lighting of transport cells and setting up of security barricades.
