Offices burnt at Senapati in hill unrest

Imphal, July 10: Violent protests continued to rock Senapati district as agitators targeted offices of the Zonal Education Officer, Veterinary and Fishery departments located at the district headquarters yesterday.

While these Government establishments were burnt late in the night protestors also targeted the SDO Office and veterinary office at Tadubi sub-division at sporadic interval yesterday itself.

As suspected agitation supporters lit the Senapati offices at around 11.30 pm Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the scene soon after receiving information of the acts of arson but could not prevent the Government properties from being ravaged by the fire as the structures were mostly made of wooden material.

On the other hand, timely arrival of Mao police personnel prevented total destruction of the Tadubi SDO office which was torched by the agitators at around 5.30 pm with kerosene oil, said sources.

However, the veterinary office located nearby could not be saved as the incident occurred late in the night (11.30 pm).

The PWD office located at Tamenglong district has also been destroyed beyond redemption.
