Imphal, February 12: MPP president Okram Joy today stated that the candidates are likely to be elected by bullet and not by ballot in the ensuing election if the Government tails to take up proper security measures beforehand.

Speaking to reporters at the party office this evening.

Joy accused the authority of being biased and not providing adequate security to MPP candidates including Keirao AC's S Lala while their rivals were provided the same.

Joy said MPP candidates too should be given adequate security on the basis of the threat perceptions as in the done of the other candidates.

Expressing suspicion that the police department may be partial towards Congress candidates, Joy said even dummy candidates of the Congress are provided adequate security cover.

He said that attacks on candidates are being politicized.

There are also certain candidates who are planning to win election through proxy voting and booth capturing, he added.

Earlier, S Lala whose residence was attacked early this morning said he fears to go out on election day without escorts.

He said that some gunmen had on February 9 threatened party workers at his poll office at Arapti Mamang Leikai.

He expressed regret that the Government has failed to provide security to him.

MPP general secretary AK Sanaton said that only Abdul Rouf in Thoubal AC and Dr Nimaichand Luwang in Wangkhem AC were provided escorts out of the 14 party candidates.

He regretted that the party candidates have not been given security cover even after repealed appeals.

Meanwhile, FPM candidate in Keishamthong constituency L Ibomcha whose residence was also attacked today told reporters that he received a telephone call asking him not to attend an election meeting a little earlier to the attack.

Ibomcha said several of his workers have been intimidated and some were even assaulted during the current month.

He said that today's attack occurred while he was getting ready to attend an election meeting at Kwakeithel Moirang Purel.

However, despite the threat, he attended the meeting at around 2.45 pm.
