Imphal, August 06 2010:
All Clubs, Organisations, Associations, Meira Paibis' Lup (ACOAM-Lup) has also appealed for lifting the economic blockade being imposed by United Naga Council (UNC) along the NHs in the interest of the suffering people.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its Lamphel office today, ACOAM-Lup general secretary Indrajit Tourangbam contended that reimposition of economic blockade along the two National Highways passing through Manipur for another 20 days with effect from August 4 even as the public are still suffering from shortage of essential commodities from the earlier 68-day long economic blockade is unreasonable and this would compound the difficulties of the common people.
So, the ongoing blockade should be lifted in the interest of the suffering people, he demanded.
The Government of India and the Government of Manipur should not remain mute spectator to the suffering of the people but take up necessary measures to redress them, he added.
Indrajit also questioned the rational behind inviting the leaders of ANSAM and UNC for talks by the Government though its Home Department has not been able to implement the directive of the Gauhati High Court to effect the arrest of these leaders for the illegal act of imposing blockade along the National Highways, thus depriving the basic fundamental rights of right to life and right to food of the people.
It is high time for all the all the civil organisations to come together and discuss what should be done in this regard.
Advisor of ACOAM-Lup H Kula was also present during the press conference.
