Imphal, April 09 2010:
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), has called a 6-day economic blockade along the two National Highways leading to Manipur and on all the State Highways from the midnight of April 11 in protest against the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council (3rd Amendment) Act, 2008 .
The ANSAM while informing this to Newmai News Network from Senapati tonight warned those violators of the blockade with dire consequences.
"If the State Government refuses to consider and pay heed to the peoples' wish by going ahead in conducting the autonomous district council elections in Manipur hills under the very Act then, we will resort to sterner forms of agitation," further warned the ANSAM leaders today.
Mention may be made that the United Naga Council (UNC) had 'officially' intimated the HAC on February 26 to take up some steps in this regard and reminded on April 2 that a deadline was set for April 7 to address the matter.
It is also worth noting that a day-long meeting was held on Thursday organised by the UNC and it had decided to agitate against the state government move.
