ADC polls : 13 aspirants throw in the towel

Imphal, April 26 2010: Even as the agitation in the hill districts has intensified against the holding of elections under the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Act, 2008, altogether 13 aspiring candidates including 10 from the Indian National Congress (INC), two from Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA) and one Independent have announced that they would not join the fray.

Mairikiu John of Khenjang ADC constituency, KH Loso Mao of Kalapahar, H.Khangba of Kalapahar, R Veichosapou of Kalapahar, TS Suiny Soul of T Khullen, N John of Kalapahar, W Normal of Makui Wakotphai, Tainamai Solomon of Mayangkhang, R Kapibou of Makui Wakotphai and W Ranchong of Irang Part one, all from the INC, and N Thaisii of Purul and MK Stephen of Irang Part one, both from PDA and T Disimang, an Independent have withdrawn their 'candidatures' .

This information was based on the joint statement issued in Senapati today by these intending candidates.

These intending candidates are from Kangpokpi and Saitu Assembly Constituencies.

"The above-signed intending candidates for ADC elections on Indian National Congress tickets, PDA tickets and also as an Independent from Kangpokpi and Saitu Assembly Constituencies, Manipur, unanimously decided to withdraw our applications and refrain from participating in the ADC elections under the present Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act, 2008 on April 25, 2010 at Senapati.

"The same is conveyed to United Naga Council (UNC) office in support of their decisions," said the statement.
