A joint meeting of legislators and organization leaders of SPF coalition partners, Congress and Communist party of India was convened today morning at the Chief Minister's official bungalow to discuss on protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur as well as the prevailing situation.
The meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was attended by around 150 persons including legislators and important leaders of both the Congress and CPI who expressed diverse opinions on the uncertain situation arising out of opposition from some quarters to release of the thirteen NSCN (IM) members.
Chief Minister O Ibobi gave a detailed account to the gathering on steps pursued by the SPF Government for protection of Manipur's territory.
Workers of both parties emphasized on urgency to neutralize attempts of some organization to misinterpret the State Government endeavors in line with public sentiments as well as to campaign for projecting the positive steps initiated by the Government to preserve integrity and communal harmony.
The meeting decided to convene similar session on October 16 to chart out programmes for creation of mass awareness to the people.
Later at around 10.30 am the Chief Minister was engaged in a meeting with security officials to deliberate on prevailing law and order situation of the State.
According to press sources, precautionary measures in view of the general strike called by MPLF - permanent body of PREPAK, UNLF and RPF - on October 14-15 and meira rally of October 15 night figured prominently at the meeting.
