Main accused in murder of Elizabeth in custody: CM

Imphal, November 18: In a major breakthrough, the state police team today managed to nab the main accused out of the four involved in the kidnapping and subsequent killing of eight year old Lungnila Elizabeth, daughter of general administration and election minister Francis Ngajokpa.

He had been arrested by a special team of Manipur police this evening.

The names of the identified culprits shall be declared within one or two days.

The identity of the arrested youth shall also be revealed within a short period.

The Chief Minister further said that the Manipur police has detected the kidnappers and the whole episode was carried out by two groups of anti social elements.

One team kidnapped Elizabeth and another team collected ransom from her father.

Both of the team members include people from the hill and the valley who were members of various under ground organizations.

They were involved in the kidnapping of persons in the past and demanded money.

The government will try to arrest the remaining culprits he said.

Thirteen persons are in the police custody so far for further interrogation.

From them the Manipur police were able to collect important reports.

He appealed to all sections of the public to inform so the police where about the remaining culprits.

Exhorting the general public to be patient, the Chief minister also stated that his government would not leave any stone unturned to arrest the remaining main culprits.

The main accused who was arrested on Tuesday directly dealt in handing and taking of ransom from the family members of Francis Ngajokpa.

The family had already given a sum of Rs 10 lakh in two installments to the kidnappers.

Cash rewards would be announced, he added.

The police team also is also trying to arrest three more accused persons but none of them could not be arrested as of Tuesday as most of them were out of station.

In view of the development, the police team has picked up some of the family members of those "culprits".

"If we disclose their identity, the investigation would go askew" Ibobi asserted, "Our agenda is to find out the root cause or the main motive behind the kidnapping and its subsequent killing".

Police said the arrested suspects who are presently in their custody are so well experienced kidnappers and they had been indulging in similar activities for the last couple of years.

Meanwhile the Lok Sabha BJP MP Thounaojam Chaoba has demanded construction of Elizabeth's statue at every district headquarters of the state in her memory.
