Imphal, August 11: A public meeting at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium here today in connection with the exclusion of Laishram Monika Devi from the Olympic squad in a manipulative manner has adopted a fourpoint resolution.

Monika, who was scheduled arrived at Imphal today to participate in the meeting could not make it as her flight ticket could not be arranged in time.

Nonetheless, after a serious deliberation on the issue, the meeting unanimously said that the exclusion of Monika from the Beijing Olympics in a way reflected the way in which the Government of India views the people of Manipur.

Hence, the meeting condemned the act and demanded that the officials responsible for the Monika case should be pulled up and given benefiting punishment.

The meeting also resolved and demanded that the Indian Government should tender an apology to the people of Manipur within seven (7) days from today failing which a 24 hours general strike would be called on August 19 .

The strike would come into effect from 5 a m of 19 August to 5 am of 20 August.

However, no schools, medical departments nor religious programmes would be affected.

The meeting also further resolved that the International Olympic Committee would be informed of the discrimination being faced by the sportspersons of the State in the hands of India and that freedom be given to the State to participate in the International and National events in its own name.

And that until the case of Monika was solved the State would not participate in any championships/competitions be it zonal, national or international.

For better understanding, the meeting also resolved that the name of the Co-ordinating committee would be henceforth known as the Co-ordinating Committee Against the Conspiracy to Exclude Monika from Beijing Olympics by Government of India.

The president of Manipur Women Hockey Association Momon Devi, former Mister India title holder N Maipak Singh, president of Manipur Olympic Association E Binoykumar Singh and first Manipuri Olympian (Hockey) P Neelkomol were among the personalities who took the dais of the public meeting convened by the Co-ordinating Committee Against Monika's Withdrawal from Beijing Olympics, 2008 .

Convenor of the Co-ordinating Committee and president of Manipur Hockey Association Th Manihar, vice president of Manipur Weightlifting Association N Kumar Meitei, head of Philosophy Department of Manipur University Dr Lokendrajit Singh and Advisor of MAPI Council Hareswar Goswami, editor of The Freedom RK Ranendrajit, were among other leaders of various civil organisations who participated and spoke during the meeting.

Meanwhile, when The Sangai Express contacted, Monika who is currently at Delhi and could not the meeting today, informed that she received information about the s meeting late in the evening yesterday.

So she could not arrange the flight ticket in time for coming to Imphal and participate in today's meeting.

Monika, however, added that she would be definitely come to Imphal within the next four-five days.
