MHA officials along with Ministers visiting Senapati today

Imphal, August 06 2010: The ministerial team of the state government along with officials of the Union home ministry will proceed to Senapati to hold talks with leaders of the agitating UNC and ANSAM tomorrow as per schedule even though hints of a boycott of the team by the agitating bodies persished.

Joint Secretary of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (North East), Navin Verma and Samir Joshy, an official of MHA will also take part in the ministerial team visit to Senapati district headquarters.

The ministers who will be part of the team are Tribal Development Minister, DD Thaisii, IFCD minister N Biren who is also spokesperson of SPF government and PHED Minister, TN Haokip.

State Chief Secretary, DS Poonia and Principal Secretary (Tribal Development), LP Golmei are among other officials of the state government who will take part in the visit aimed at holding talks with the leaders of the UNC and ANSAM.

The two agitating bodies are likely to boycott the proposed talk as the wanted tag on the heads of president of UNC and ANSAM by the state police department as per directive of the court, are yet to be withdrawn.

It is pertinent to mention here that a meeting of the Cabinet ministers after a Cabinet meeting on August 4 last had decided to send a team of three ministers to initiate talks with leaders of UNC and ANSAM who are resuming their agitation by imposing a 20-blockade on the national highways in the state.

In the meantime, on the third day of the economic blockade on the national highways, a total of 130 loaded trucks including 24 oil tankers and eight bullet tankers (bulk LPG careers) headed for Imphal on the NH-39 with security escort provided by the troops of 86th Battalion CRPF.

The trucks crossed Mao gate at about 2.30 pm, an official report here said.

Another 86 empty trucks with 20 empty oil tankers crossed Mao gate for procuring goods from Dimapur and other places today, the report added.
