News report on North Eastern tourism region on The Telegraph, titled "Sylvan vistas beckon tourists", made us realize again how beautiful and enchanting our regions are. As per the report, North Eastern region has the highest growth in tourism in the country in both foreign and domestic categories.
The upcoming master plan to develop the sector in the area will be a good boon to us. It writes, "The growth rate in foreign tourist rate in the North East in 2010-11 was 6.09 per cent, while in the domestic sector the rate was 8.09 per cent compared to the all India rate of 7 per cent".
Initiative steps taken up by North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited like having a discussion on issues concerning the tourism sector in the Northeast with a total of 150 tour operators attending the meeting etc are a must call. According to the news report, the number of tourists who visited NE in the year 2009-2010 are-

The report further says that the idea of Regional director, Union ministry of tourism, Deepa Laskar, is to develop the Northeast as the world's most unique sustainable eco-tourism destination, and to prepare a Master plan which focuses on nature, culture and religion, develop it as India's gateway to Southeast Asia, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand.
The report says, "In nature tourism, North Eastern region offers rich bio-diversity, virgin unexplored terrain, wildlife parks and sanctuaries, and also various avenues of adventure tourism to discerning tourists.
Similarly, in culture, the region has diverse cultural heritage, exotic tribal heritage and multi-faceted fairs and festivals for its tourists." Part of the plan is to set up 25 institutes of hotel management and three foodcraft institutes in the North Eastern part of the country and branding and marketing India's Northeast � Paradise Unexplored in the overseas markets.
