Education in Human Values
(Reorienting the Content and Process of Education under Value Education)

"The Technological Education to-day has veiled the moral and ethical vision of mankind almost to the point of spiritual blindness which has led the world to crimes, corruption and communal riots. What value is the acquisition of all the degrees in the world if there is no human culture? The System of Education should be to develop a man into an ideal and exemplary person. Education is for life and not for mere living. The Education System, therefore, should be highly structured to provide such Moral and Spiritual Values in addition to Science and Technology."

The present system of education provides society with doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists and also gives industry a capable workforce and helps maintain law and order by instructing people in social values. No doubt, modern education system, Science and Technology, develops the intellect and skills, but does not promote good character of the learners.

There are thousands of universities all over the world and many educational institutes are coming up day by day. However, there is no department of knowledge where the science of the soul is taught. Swami Vivekananda says - "The End and Aim of all education, all training, should be Man Making Education."

Many great thinkers and Education Reformers have been trying to reform the System of Education in India since last many years. In fact, numerous Seminars and Symposiums were organized all over the country to discuss about the Value Oriented System of Education in India.

1. The Committee set up by Mahatma Gandhi in 1938 entitled "Basic National Education" highlighted the need for changing the system of education in India for promoting the youths for the better of future mankind.

2. The University Education Commission established in 1948-49 was keen to incorporate Spiritual Training in the school curriculum.

3. The Secondary Education Commission 1952-53 observed that Religion and Moral instruction do play an important role in the growth of character.

4. The Committee on Religion and Moral Education setup by the Ministry of Education in 1959, affirmed the great role and Spiritual Values and proposed concrete programmes for different stages of education.

5. The National Policy on Education 1969 based on the outstanding report of the Education Commission (1964-66) laid emphasis on the development of Science and Technology, along with the cultivation of Moral and Social Values and observed that the education system must produce young man and women of "Character" and "Ability" who can commit to National Service and development of the country.

The formulation of the National Policy on Education 1986, aiming towards-"Reorienting the Content and Process of Education under Value Education" is highly essential for revitalizing the Education System in India for molding young children to become useful citizens of character, discipline and good exemplary person.

The children of to-day are the hopes of tomorrow. As a matter of fact, a child is given to the universe to be educated. But the problem that confronts us now is how we should bring about a relevant change in the Education System such that the natural spirit of the children is recognized in relation to the Almighty God and His Creation and the commitment of valuable services towards the human society.

The inner of the children is further strengthened in relationship among various aspects of the universe and mankind. Children are born ignorant so they need direction towards required proper education.
