Imphal, March 07 2009:
Fourteen labourers working at Poi village located along Indo-Myanmar border under Chingai Block of Ukhrul district have been abducted by armed persons in connection with a monetary demand of Rs 20 lakhs.
Police sources, while confirming reports of the abduction, maintained that exact number of abducted labourers could not be ascertained as yet.
The abduction might be a fall-out of the contractor refusing to fulfil monetary demand of the armed group, it said.
According to information received here, the labourers were engaged in felling trees under two contractors based at Ukhrul.
Other details of the labourers cannot be confirmed at the time of filing this report.
