Imphal, February 22 2009:
While welcoming the initiative to upgrade the Khuman Lampak central bus terminus to the status of an Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), the Central Bus Terminal Leases Welfare Association has raised strong objection to construction of ISBT without making alternative arrangements for the people doing small business inside the complex.
Speaking to reporters today, the association said that they will take legal aid in case the authority concerned does not make an alternative arrangement for livelihood of the people doing who have been business inside the complex.
Modhuchandra, president of the association said that people running shops and living around Khuman Lampak bus terminus complex are genuine pattadars since several years back.
Even as some pattadars have been compensated and provided other benefits in accordance to an understanding between the Transport Minister and the association, many other pattadars are yet to receive any compensation from the Government, Modhuchandra disclosed.
