Imphal, March 05 2009:: Accusing PHED Senapati Division Executive Engineer Gambhir Singh of misappropriating a huge amount of public money, the Senapati District Contractors's Association (SDCA) has demanded that the Executive Engineer be punished/transferred at the earliest.

According to a SDCA release, CDA's of Rs 1.80 crores were released in the month of October 2007, Rs 1,40 crores in December 2007.Rs 1.73 crores in March 2008 and Rs 1.35 crores in October and November last year by the Government for contractors through PHED.

However, against all these CDA's released by the Government, the EE paid only 5 percent, 10 percent and 10-20 percent as bills to the contractors and deducted 26 percent for UGs.

The remaining amounts remained a mystery.

The latest sanctioned amount of Rs 1.35 crores was completely misappropriated by the EE as he had written cheques only for a total of about Rs 35 lakhs, it alleged.

In response to a memorandum submitted by the SDCA, the Governor had directed the PHED Minister to take stern action against the guilty EE.

But the Minister has concealed the filed and exonerated the Executive Engineer, it claimed.

Demanding transfer of the EE, the contractors' body cautioned that in the event of failure to act by the authority concerned, the SPF Government should be responsible for any eventuality.
