Imphal, July 13 2009: In the second paragraph of the news item under the headline "Jiribam merchants resolve not to paymoney to militants" published on page 3 of this newspaper dated the 12th July, 2009, it was wrongly reported that "Some armed miscreants suspected to be PLA cadres looted most of the shops..." On further enquiry, it was found that no PLA cadres were involved in the incident, that it was some unknown armed persons who committed the crime.

We had published the report as told by a source without verifying it.

But we had not the slightest intention to malign the RPF/PLA's name.

It was plain oversight.

The embarrassment/indignation caused by the report to the party concerned is deeply regretted.
