Imphal, October 29 2012: Contending that Loktak Day is being celebrated more as a glamourous event, straying away from its main theme of preserving the lake, a large number of fishermen today staged a protest demonstration at Thanga Chinglak Keithel even as Loktak Day was celebrated at Thanga Lairembi ground.

One protester Heisnam Ashangbi said that celebrating Loktak Day as an event of glamour and merriment, after ignoring all the cases of human rights violation of peasants and fishermen is a waste of money.

They also raised many slogans like "Investigate K-Pro's corrupt phumdi cleanup in Loktak lake", "Repeal Loktak Lake Protection Act 2006", "Review Loktak Hydroelectric Project", "Let Loktak Lake be for people, not for LDA and NHPC" etc.
