Imphal, September 27 2010:
The Wangkhei Kendra Development Forum has declared that social worker Okram Henry would contest in the next Assembly elections from Wangkhei Constituency.
Speaking to media persons at the Mantripukhri residence of Henry this afternoon, president of the forum MA Mannan said that they would field O Henry as a candidate in the Assembly elections likely to be held in 2012 .
Notably, the Wangkhei Kendra Development Forum was established in October 2009 under the aegis of O Henry.
MA Mannan said that Wangkhei Kendra, despite being located in the heart of the State capital, has been lagging far behind in terms of development due to non-implementation of development activities for a prolonged period.
Claiming that there is a vast difference between the development activities taken up by Henry through the forum and those undertaken by the sitting MLA, Mannan said that more and more people of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency would like to work with Henry towards development of the Assembly segment.
Consequent upon the failure of voters to exercise their franchise according to their own wisdom at the time of elections, Wangkhei Assembly Constituency remains quite backward compared to other constituencies.
He, however, rejoiced that drains and streets of four wards of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency which were in bad shape have been properly repaired with the help of people concerned with community welfare.
So far, O Henry has taken up and completed 20 different work programmes in Ward No 21, 19 work programmes in Ward No 22, 16 work programmes in Ward No 23 and 14 other work programmes in Ward No 26, Mannan claimed.
The forum has been checking qualities of all these works while also working to ensure that bills for these works are not delayed.
In view of the widespread public support given to Henry on account of his ability to execute development works which even the incumbent MLA could not, the forum decided to field Henry as a candidate in the next Assembly elections from Wangkhei constituency, MA Mannan said.
He also appealed to all concerned not to disrupt activities taken up according to people's wish but extend cooperation towards development of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency.
