Noting that the existing educational system of the State cannot be changed overnight without public support, Education Minister L Jayantakumar, nevertheless, exuded that certain new aspects in the existing education system can be expected from next year.
Jayantakumar was speaking chief guest at the annual prize distribution of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) at JN Manipur Dance Academy today.
He emphasised on the inevitability of public cooperation in rectifying the flaws inherent in the existing education system.
Before 30 years there were great changes in both hills and valley not only in the field of education but also in different other sectors, he
said.
Claiming that the attempt of the Education Department to rectify flaws and loopholes impairing education constitute a part of the process towards bringing a noticeable change in the existing education system, Jayantakumar certain new aspects and changes can be observed from next year.
As against the instruction of the Union Human Resources Development Ministry that all Elementary teachers under Education Department should be trained teachers, only 40-42 percent of the Elementary teachers are found trained.
The Department encountered certain difficulties in imparting training to the remaining teachers, he said.
Addressing the function as guest of honour, retired IAS officer Elangbam Sonamani drew attention of the Education Minister to allow students to study both Meetei Mayek and Bengali so that the younger generations can inherit the Manipuri literature of the past 300 years.
In her presidential speech, BSEM Chairperson Dr W Ibempishak disclosed that the Board has been considering to introduce grading system as is followed by CBSE but the Board has been holding back the same idea apprehending protests from different quarters.
However, no arrangements have been made as yet to introduce the grading system.
In case, the system is followed in all the States of India, Manipur cannot opt for the existing system, she added.
Toppers and highest mark scorers in different subjects of the HSLC Exam 2009 were awarded medals, citation and awards donated by different individuals/groups during the function.
The prize distribution function was also attended by former MU VC Prof IS Khaidem and Additional Education Director (Valley) Hareshwar Goswami as guests of honour.
