Campaign UNIDEP being organised with the main objective of bringing about emotional integration of the people and promote peace and development in the State was held along with facilitating an open discussion session at Pallel Bazar today.
Convenor of Campaign UNIDEP R Yangsosong Koireng, AMUCO advisor Thounaojam Iboyaima, secretary of Pallel Bazar Board Moirangthem Mani, member of Pallel Zilla Parishad Chingtham Brajamohan, chief of Kuraopokpi village M Ghothang Zou, advisor of Kuki Women Human Rights M Chingnu Zou, chairperson of Thaimukhong Village Women Society Sangkhu and president of Aimol Students' Union Akhup Aimol graced the dais as presidium members during the discussion.
NRC president N Sunilkanta, AMESCO vice president LS Guite, human rights activists Phulindro Konsam and AMUCO general secretary NC Khuman were among the resource persons who spoke touching on various important issues at the meeting attended by people of various communities living in the area.
In his address as one of the presidium members to the gathering, Yangsosong observed that the integrity of Manipur was intact while its remained as an independent kingdom for 2000 years.
However, religious discrimination in the latter part of its history and merger of Manipur has given a serious impact on the integrity and unity of its people.
So it should be responsible of the present generation to rectify the historical error and start living in peace and unity, he said.
Iboyaima said in the present situation, Manipur people should know who are their friends and who are their foes.
He also encouraged intercaste marriage for cementing the existing bond between the hill and the valley people.
Akhup Aimol pointed out that onus of bringing unity and integrity among the people should not be imposed on any one particular communities, but it should be the responsibility of all.
