Imphal, November 20 2009:
Taking strong exception to Minister Loken's statement that the Khwairamband incident of July 23 was an insignificant incident, the MPP Youth Front has questioned the underlying meaning of the Minister's statement.
A press release issued by the youth front reminded that the Khwairamband incident was the root cause of the numerous protest movements, rallies, poster campaigns, mass court arrest movement, bandhs, class boycott as well as imposition of curfew.
If the Khwairamband killing was an insignificant incident or a minor matter then why is the Government still unable to settle the matter even after more than three months.
Observing that the Minister's statement exposed his sheer irresponsibility, the MPP Youth Front asserted that the Cabinet Minister's statement should be presumed as the Government's own words for it has failed to make any clarification till date.
The silence of the Government was a clear indication that it was not working in the interest of the people.
"How could one say that the Government is a popular one when it is totally callous to such an insensitive issue?", the youth front asked.
It further asked if the Government was there to serve the people or kill 2/3 people every day as a routine.
A memorandum highlighting the collective wishes of the people and signed by thousands of people was sent to the President of India on November 11.Signatures of thousands of people are being collected and sent to the President everyday.
Taking into account of the meeting between the Governor and the Chief Minister on November 12, visit by media persons based outside the State, some political leaders of Manipur making hasty trips of Delhi, the youth front claimed that its memorandum has started yielding results.
It also appealed to the people to support the 'Mass Signature Campaign Demanding Justice in 23/7 Khwairamband Incident' in order to save Manipur.
