With the election to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly approaching fast, the Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) has stated that it would stage a public rally at Imphal on November 25 to raise the demand for removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur and save the life of Irom Chanu Sharmila.
The decision to take out the rally was taken during a joint meeting of all the office bearers of the party, kendra presidents and prospective party candidates on November 7.Sources from the party office said the rally is being planned to ring out the question why the draconian Act cannot be removed from whole of Manipur when it has successfully been removed from the seven Assembly segments of Imphal Municipal Council.
The rally is expected to be participated by not less than 30,000 people and it would cover all the important routes of Imphal area, the source said, adding that a public meeting would also be organised after the rally.
The source also informed that all the frontal organisations of the party have been instructed for mobilisation for the grand success of the rally.
The resolution taken during the public meeting would also be forwarded to the President of India through the Governor in the form of a memorandum, the source said.
Ahead of the forthcoming election, source further disclosed that MPP would be organising a series of party workers' conference in all the kendras and the necessary arrangement in this regard would be finalised within December 15.Along with celebrating the 35th foundation day of the party on December 26, the election campaign of the party would also be formally launched, the source said, adding that the main issues on which the MPP would fight the election include protection of unity and integrity of Manipur, emotional integration of its people and resolution of the conflicting situation through political dialogue.
The source disclosed that arrangement have been made for fielding party candidates in all the Assembly constituencies of the valley as well as in 5/6 Assembly segments of the hills district.
Campaigning in the hills with special emphasise on the issue of Naga integration has already been made, the source added.
