Lamka, August 04 2009:
Terming the BT Road fake encounter as another terror act caught on tape, Zomi Students Federation today said the incident is not the first, neither would be the last and warned the State Government against making any attempt to deploy the tainted force in the hill districts, reports our correspondent.
Asserting that commandos have no place in the hill areas of Manipur, a strongly worded statement of the federation said, the incident has not only affirmed our worst fear, but confirms what the commandos were upto till date and what they will be upto in the future.
Forget about the very concept of deploying the blood tainted commandos in the hill districts, instead disband them from the very soil of Manipur, it adds.
Fake encounters were now synonymous with the Manipur Police Commandos.
It is a well known fact that went on without concrete evidence, but the Tehelka expose has made the difference.
They were elements of state sponsored terror, calling the shots when and where the political elites wish so, said the statement further.
Significantly, the students federation also noted that in countering insurgency, one has to fight the insurgency but not the insurgents.
Winning the heart and minds of the people is the best course of action for that matter, it said.
