Right to Information (RTI) Act cannot apply to certain intelligence and security organizations established by the Central Government specified in the Second Schedule of the Act, but if the case of information sought for is in respect of allegations of corruption and human rights violations, this Act can apply to them, said advocate Angomcha Araba speaking as a resource person in a one-day state level seminar on Right to Information Act, 2005 held on Thursday at the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Imphal.
Speaking as the chief guest in the seminar, commissioner of tribal development L.P.Gonmei said that as tribal people of the state lack knowledge about the RTI Act, the TRI has organized the one-day state level seminar especially for them.
He appealed to the participants of the seminar to take advantage of the seminar and learn about the Act to be utilized for the development of society.
He cautioned that though some people can misuse the Act for their own vested interest, we should not do so as it is against the Act to do so.
Two papers were presented at the seminar A background, concept and objectives of the Right to Information Act, 2005 by advocate Saikhom Olendro Singh and The scope and provisions of the Right to Information Act, 2005 and its remedy by advocate Angomcha Araba.
The seminar was graced by LP Gonmei, commissioner of tribal development, Manipur, Thangtawn, director of tribal development, Manipur and K Daimai, joint director of tribal development, Manipur as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The seminar was reported to be well attended by representatives from all the hill districts of Manipur except Churachandpur.
