A 38-year man was allegedly shot at by an unidentified gunman for refusing to hand over his vehicle.
The man who sustained two bullets on his left knee and thigh and is being hospitalised at RIMS is identified as Moirangthem Meghachandra (38) of Yairipok Top Chingkha.
Talking to reporters at the hospital in connection with the incident, Meghachandra, who runs a poultry farm, incident, Meghachandra, who runs a poultry farm, said he was coming out from his residence riding on his mobike (Pulser) going toward Yairipok Ningthounai at around 10 am today when an unidentified person stopped him near a Pan Dukan located some 200 metres from his residential gate.
The unidentified gunman asked Meghachandra dropping him somewhere, but as Meghachandra did not know the person well, he refused to obey.
After a brief argument over the matter, the unidentified person whisked out his pistol and shot at him.
As a result, he fell down from his mobike and was lying on the road when the unidentified man tried to speed off on his mobike.
Seeing that Meghachandra instantly got up picking up two stones and rushed toward the unidentified gunman who tried to fire at him again.
Meghachandra tried to run away toward Ningthounai side with the unidentified gunman firing after him and he was hit.
On hearing the gunshots and seeing Meghachandra lying on the road, people from the nearby area rushed in and the unidentified gunman fled from the scene.
Meghachandra was later rushed to the hospital.
Meghachandra suspected that the alleged gunman might be an activist of the proscribed PULF.
Expressing regret over the action of the trigger happy gunman who used his arm on innocent people over some trifle matter, the victim has also appealed to all concerned to give an explanation in this regard.
