Imphal, November 27:
Decision has been taken to approach the Court in connection with an earlier interim order stalling the process of rearrangement/readjustment of some of the existing Assembly Constituencies of the State by the Delimitation Commission of India.
The decision was arrived at during a joint meeting held at the New Delhi office of the Commission on November 23.The meeting attended by Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur decided to approach the court for allowing the process of delimitation to carry on in consultation with the political parties or to bring about a solution toward resolving the stalemate.
However, it is said even if the Court gives its ruling for resuming the delimitation process, rearrangement/readjustment of Assembly Constituencies would not be able to implement in the forthcoming Assembly election slated to be held sometime in February next year but it would be possible in the Parliamentary election to be held in 2009.In this connection, Registrar General of India (Census) has already submitted the affidavits of the relevant documents/matters to the court.
It may be noted that the working paper of the Commission had mooted readjustment of three Assembly Constituencies located in the valley and increasing the existing number of Assembly Constituencies in the hill based on the census report.
Meanwhile, Election Commissioner of ECI Dr SY Quaishi who was scheduled to visit the State from Nov 29 to 30 has been postponed, according to an official source.
