Imphal, January 27 2009:
The cease work strike being spearheaded by the Joint Administrative Council of AMTUC and AMGEO since November 27 in pursuance of it demand for extending the benefits of the 6th Pay Commission to the Government employees of the State as well continued to paralyse the functioning of various departments.
In continuation of the agitation, employees of Manipur Legislative Assembly staged a Wakat Meepham inside the complex of the Assembly Secretariat here today.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat Employees' Association P Manglem asserted that denial of the benefit of the Central 6th Pay Commission to the employees of the State Government as well when the prices of the essential commodities have reached sky-high today is very unfortunate.
So the demand of the JAC is justifiable and ongoing agitation should continue until the Government fulfils the demand.
On the other hand, secretary general of the striking JAC Ch Chandramani has stated that as the State Government has not given any response to the demand for extending the benefit of Central 6th Pay Commission to its 63,000 employees working in various Departments as well as to 36,000 pensioners, the prolonged cease work strike of the JAC has given a serious impact on the administration of the State.
He also informed that the JAC would step up its agitation if the Government remains indifferent to the rightful demand of the employees and pensioners.
