Imphal, April 26 2009:
In recognition of her endeavour towards the upliftment of the Handloom and handicraft of Manipur society, Hongray Ms Asun has been conferred with AMACSDS award during the 3rd award ceremony of All Manipur Arts & Culture and Sports Development Society held here at MM Child Centre, Khomidok Mayai Leikai, Imphal East today.
Under her credit Asun Handloom & Handicraft Co-operative Federation, Ukhrul district has now over 18,800 members enrolled in the society at present with over 185 primary weaver co-operative societies, 40 numbers of productions, 30 trainers with 5 instructors.
With today's award she has become one of the few ladies in the district who had received such a prestigious award.
By the sideline of the ceremony, Asun said that due to the needs of various designs to be engraved in the making of particularly Tangkhul shawls and Phaneks one has to make manually without depending on the machine and this usually takes around 3 to 4 weeks in making single Tangkhul shawl.
However, with the arrival of new machines from outside the State it has become easier for the weavers to complete around 30 to 35 such shawls in a couple of weeks, she added.
