Members of All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union demonstrated in front of the oil depot of the IOC AOD) at Sangakpham today decrying the heavy monetary demand from various UG groups as well as the recent incident of beating up a colleague.
Talking to mediapersons on the side of the protest demonstration, Union president Y Bhupenchandra Ghosh informed that some 3 months back, a motor cycle borne youth with helmet had come and verbally conveyed to some of the members for meeting their monetary demand.
Saying that the Union is no position to entertain monetary demand, Ghosh appealed to all concerned not to impose such unbearable monetary demands.
Furthermore, he said that the incident of beating up driver Mayengbam Premjit (36) of Wabagai Awang Leikai after an accident with an autorickshaw at Khabam Lamkhai at around 8 am of June 15 was condemnable.
The autorickshaw driver identified as Likmabam Anand (28) of Heingang Chingkham Leikai allegedly beat up Premjit after being calling some of his friends, Ghosh said, adding that Premjit has been admitted to JN Hospital in a critical condition.
Shooting condemned: Calling upon all concerned not to convert Sangaiprou village into a killing field, womenfolk of the area staged a Wakat Meepham today.
The protestors said shooting and injuring a non-local milk deliverman by unidentified armed persons yesterday was not the first incident of its kind that took place in the area.
There have been instances in the past in which victims were brought for being killed in and around the area.
Advisor of Sangaiprou Women Society Athina Kamei informed that cordoning of the village by the security personnel after the yesterday's incident has caused uneasiness in the minds of the local people.
On the other hand, similar Wakat Meepham was also staged at Kwakeithel Konjengbam Leikai today in protest against the last night's bomb attack at the residence of one Konthoujam Manoranjan Singh who is an employee of Agriculture Department.
