To press the demand for withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, Manipur People�s Party (MPP) is all set to take out a mass public rally at Imphal on November 25 and submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Governor.
Informing this during a press conference at the party office here today, party president Dr L Chandramani categorically stated that the Act should be scrapped.
Justice Jeevan Reddy Committee had also recommended repealing of the Act, he noted.
Dr Chandramani said his party is also opposed to the move being made by the Government to construct the Tipaimukh dam.
None of the promises made at the time of construction of Loktak Project has not been fulfilled instead many farmers are reeling under abject poverty after their lands have been submerged by the project, he said.
Replying to a question, Dr Chandramani said the candidates of the party who would contest in the forthcoming State Assembly election would be announced after December 26.Who would be fielded is being seriously being looked into by the Political Affairs Committee of the party, he added.
He also informed two NCP members namely Mutum Kavita and Thokchom Ajit of Heingang A/C have joined MPP and would be contesting in the forth-coming Assembly election as party candidates.
Party member RK Anand, who was also present during the press conference said killing of Binoy by the police commandos deserved strong condemnation.
This also shows the failure of the Government on law and order front, he said.
