For the first time in Manipur, the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East District has terminated one Fair Price Shop (FPS) agent for his failure to distribute rice to the Ration card holders at correct scale and price consequent upon timely intervention made by the Consumer Court, Imphal.
Informing this in a statement, director of Human Rights Law Network Meihoubam Rakesh informed that on July 30, 2009, the Consumers Disputes Redressal Forum, Imphal (Consumer Court) had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East to furnish a detailed report of his inquiry against one Naorem Surjit Singh, the FPS agent of polling station no.5/19 of Thongju Assembly Constituency for his failure to distribute PDS items to the card holders as per the terms and conditions of his appointed.
The said directive of the Consumer Court had been issued consequent upon a complaint filed by one Ningombam Gandha Singh of Khongman Zone-V, Imphal East against the FPS agent for his alleged failure of distributing 35 kgs of rice at its correct price on regular monthly basis.
Based on the findings of the inquiry, the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East district found that the charges levelled against the FPS agent are true and correct.
Accordingly, the DC issued an order on October 17 to the effect of terminating Naorem Surjit, Rakesh informed.
