With the objective to promote indigenous products in festivals like Ningol Chakkouba, an exhibition of handloom and handicraft products would be held at GM hall from October 17 to 23 under the name of Kanglei Ningol Khudol.
The exhibition would be participated by 53 different stalls including four belonging to Manipuris settling outside the State.
The main exhibits would be varieties of handloom products, craft works, indigenous delicacies and fruits.
Speaking to reporters, president of Apunba Kanglei Shinnaibi Lup (AKSIL) Th Gomti observed that there is great urgency to check growing habit of the people to discard handloom clothes.
The exhibition is being organised by AKSIL.
She also conveyed serious concern at the rising trend of extravagant spending in Ningol Chakkouba festival adding that commercialisation of the festival may erode the underlying significance and beauty of the festival.
Gomti noted that use of handloom clothes produced in the State for presentation as gifts in the festival would certainly help in reducing many of the unnecessary and expensive items gifted during the festival.
Appealing to the people to contribute their mite in ensuring survival of handloom industry, she reiterated that the exhibition is being organised to promote the handloom products of the State.
