Imphal, March 05 2012:
Communist Party of India Leninist Marxist (CPI-ML) is set to stage a demonstration in front of Parliament in support of Irom Sharmila's cause and repeal of AFSPA on March 27 .
Speaking to reporters at the demonstration venue of Sharmila Kanba Lup at Porompat, North East in-charge of CPI-ML, Shankar Das said, the protest would be participated by hundreds of people coming from different parts of India.
Maintaining that the Congress-led Government does not want to repeal the controversial Act although it has been assured in their election manifesto, Shankar Das asserted that there is need for a people's movement to uproot the draconian Act.
Saying that CPI-ML supports Sharmila's cause, Shankar Das said that the party has been campaigning against the Act not only in India but also in many parts of the world.
The protest which is proposed to be staged on March 27 is part of the party's campaign against the draconian Act, he added.
Contending that movement against AFSPA must not be confined with Sharmila alone, Shankar Das opined that it must be the responsibility of every citizen of the country to stand against the Act.
CPI-ML State Secretary Shyamsunder said that the Government of India does not want to repeal AFSPA.
He questioned whether the Government of India is ruled by the Army.
He further questioned why the Government is not able to withdraw the Act because of the Army.
Shyamsunder also pointed out that there is no need for deployment of huge number of paramilitary and military forces in Manipur.
