Imphal, October 22 2009:
Instead of punishing the killers of Sanjit and Rabina, the SPF Government has been acting a benevolent role to mislead the people.
Taking recourse to all kinds of incompatible and inappropriate actions rather than taking up any positive initiative to bring a solution to the protracted issue, the Government has exposed its double-standard attitude, the JACs of Sanjit and Rabina remarked in a joint statement.
If the Chief Minister was sincere enough and could show some genuine empathy towards the people, he could have punished the killers of Rabina and Sanjit much earlier.
Asserting that the people boycotted Justice PG Agarwal Enquiry Commission for they did not have any faith in the one-man enquiry commission, the JACs remarked that people put their faith in the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
That was why people came forward and gave their statements to the MHRC.
The JACs alleged that the State Government lobbied to stall the MHRC's enquiry process for they feared that not only the guilty commandos but the DGP, SP, Additional SP and even the Chief Minister who is also in charge of the Home Department may get indicted once the enquiry is completed.
By restricting the functions of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) (and applications of the Right to Information (RTI) to a very limited scope, the SPF Government has been blatantly violating all universal human rights entitled to its citizens.
The threats allegedly made by police commandos to a former MLA for asking about the assets of the incumbent Chief Minister through RTI Act is a clear example of the SPF's Government arm-twisting tactics.
The JACs expressed amazement over some civil organisations and student bodies of both the hills and valley allowing themselves to be used by the Government to further advance its divide and rule policy aimed at subduing the current issue.
