Experts of Liangmai tradition and culture from all the corners of Manipur including public leaders conducted a serious discourse on Liangmai traditional laws and norms at Nkou Nhang village under Tamei subdivision few days ago.
The two-day seminar was dominated by discussing on the Liangmai marriage and divorce laws, formation of villages, traditional norms to be abided during migration of villagers to elsewhere, rules used during wartime, rules of the Liangmai dormitory, acts to deal on murder case and other criminal incidents, etc.
Resource persons Tunchapbou Thiumai, Majangbou Wijunamai, Ch Dithinbou, Lanthou Abonmai and Ringthengni Newmai presented their respective research papers on Liangmai tradition and culture where Joint Director of Tribal Research Institute Kaikhamang Daimai and Tamenglong College principal Namthiurai Daimai moderated throughout the numerous sessions of the two-day events.
Adibo Newmei, who co-ordinated the event dwelt in-depth on the importance of the tradition and culture of the Liangmai community.
Ch Takiubou, president of Liangmai art and culture body stressed for keeping alive the tradition.
He encouraged the Liangmais to uphold the traditional laws of the community.
Meanwhile, resource persons in their respective papers presented detailed practices of the Liangmai community in many fronts.
Their papers are the outcome of minute and painstaking researches on Liangmai community.
It is pertinent to note that the Liangmai community is the sub-tribe of the Zeliangrongs spread over Nagaland and Manipur.
In Manipur, the Liangmais confined both in Tamenglong and Senapati districts while in Nagaland, the community are mostly confined in Peren, Dimapur and Kohima districts.
Liangmai tribe is well known for its unique dances and dialect refinement.
